Constructing a team is a complicated process, to be compared with designing a medicine. All players have influence on eachother. Players are human beings with strong points and weak spots. It is an art to find players who can compensate eachother and make the team more solid. Another issue is their character. How they behave in the process of the team.
Especially in Anorthosis with so many players leaving, we have to start with a clean sheet. And we have to try to look into the future and imagine how new players fit to other players we haven’t signed yet.
It must be done with care. This is the reason Anorthosis started the construction of a team with patience. Our budget is limited in order to create a healthy future.
Who constructs a team starts from the fundaments. A fundamental position is the number 6 position. Defending midfielder. One of the problems last year, was that Anorthosis didn’t win too many balls in midfield. We believe we can solve this problem with Irakli Maisuradze.
He is not a famous player with a big name. But Irakli is very well equipped for the number 6 position. He is a winner, a worker, a fighter and is aware off his own limitations. In Holland we call this kind of players ‘vacuumcleaners’. They usually are underestimated by the crowds, but are heavely missed when they are not there.
Maisuradze was a regular player with Dila Gori, where I spotted him first.
But when I invited him to Valletta FC in january, he made a big progress under coach André Paus and was a keyfactor to win the title and the cup.
Maisuradze is a very stable personallity, who always tries to improve himself. Every day, every training. He never lets a team down. These are the characters we are looking for. These are Anorthosis-players.
Irakli had other choises to go to than Anorthosis. But he choose to become part of our team without a shadow of a doubt. He is only 25 years of age. I think there is a lot of potential in him, we can develope.
